Be Your Best Self and Feel Truly Alive!

Trauma & PTSD Therapy in Michigan

Trauma isn’t only what happened to you — it’s what kept happening inside you afterward. Long after an event is over, your mind and body can stay on high alert, as if the danger never passed. If you’ve been living with that, it isn’t weakness and it isn’t “all in your head.” It’s how a nervous system protects itself after something overwhelming — and it can heal.

Lori Little, MA, offers trauma and PTSD therapy for adults across Michigan — in person in Keego Harbor and online by secure telehealth statewide.

What counts as trauma?

People often assume trauma has to be a single catastrophic event. It can be — but it doesn’t have to be. Trauma is any experience that overwhelmed your ability to cope and left a lasting mark. That includes:

  • Childhood abuse, neglect, or a chaotic or frightening home
  • Physical, sexual, or emotional abuse at any age
  • A serious accident, injury, or medical event
  • The sudden or traumatic loss of someone you love
  • Violence, assault, or living in an unsafe situation
  • Ongoing stress from a harmful relationship
  • Witnessing something frightening or life-threatening

Whether it was one moment or years of it, if it's still affecting you now, it's worth taking seriously.

How trauma and PTSD can show up

Trauma lives in the body and nervous system, not just in memory. You might recognize:

  • Flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive memories that pull you back
  • Feeling constantly on guard, jumpy, or unable to relax
  • Avoiding people, places, or reminders of what happened
  • Feeling numb, detached, or cut off from yourself and others
  • Anxiety, panic, or being easily startled
  • Trouble sleeping, concentrating, or feeling safe
  • Irritability, anger, or a short fuse
  • Guilt, shame, or blaming yourself
  • Knowing you’re safe now, but never quite feeling it

You don’t need a formal PTSD diagnosis for these to be real, or for therapy to help.

You can feel safe in your own life again

Trauma can convince you that this heightened, guarded state is just who you are now. It isn’t. Trauma is highly treatable, and with the right support the alarm can quiet, the memories can lose their grip, and you can feel present and safe in your own body and life again. Healing doesn’t mean forgetting — it means the past stops running the present.

How therapy helps

Lori’s approach to trauma is gentle, paced, and always in your control — safety comes first, and you never have to relive more than you’re ready to. Her work draws on EMDR, one of the most effective, research-backed therapies for trauma and PTSD, which helps your brain reprocess stuck memories so they stop firing off in the present. She also uses EFT to calm the body’s stress response and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for the thoughts and beliefs trauma leaves behind — all within a holistic, whole-person approach.

In therapy, you can expect support with:

  • Building a sense of safety and stability before going deeper
  • Reducing flashbacks, nightmares, and intrusive memories
  • Calming a nervous system stuck in fight, flight, or freeze
  • Working through the event itself with EMDR, at your pace
  • Easing the shame, guilt, or self-blame trauma leaves behind
  • Reconnecting with yourself, other people, and daily life
